A Brief Description of Our Programs
a three-day festival celebrating hands-on “Arts for All”, performance art that includes six festivals in one with music, art, dance, poetry, film, and ScienceFest. A juried art show allows visitors the opportunity to purchase original paintings, drawings, wood sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, photography, and fiber arts. Since 2004, the festival has invested over $35,000 in school programming for K-12, placing educational outreach performances and workshops in area School Districts. Over 94,000 visitors have experienced WCAF in downtown Waco at Indian Spring Park.
A summer day camp for Arc of McLennan County, an organization for intellectually disabled individuals especially autism and cerebral palsy. Developed over six years the collaboration with Arc of McLennan County and the Heart of Texas Autism Network brings easel art, clay activities, special art projects, music and movement classes over a three day period each week during the eight-week summer camp for special needs children.
A one-day pop up arts event on Waco's historic Elm Avenue, featuring central Texas artists and performers.
An art scholarship competition for McLennan County high school Juniors and seniors that awards over $5000 to area students.
A native Wacoan was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross, Doris Miller became known when he was aboard the USS West Virginia during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The memorial evokes a ship and will include a statue of Miller overlooking the Brazos River, near the Bledsoe-Miller Recreation Center.
This brings unique sculptures by renowned and emerging artists into Waco’s downtown in order to promote art in public places. Patrick Dougherty, stickwork sculptor, completed a public art work ‘River Vessels” in the fall of 2010 involving 300 volunteers with a National Endowment for the Arts award.
A series of sculptures that pay homage to Waco's role along the historic cattle-drive trail and enable visitors to visualize Texas folklore, culture and history.
